WEEK IN REVIEW - HAMMOND

Hammond, Indiana—The United States Attorney's Office announced the following:

  Samuel Garcia, 22, of Chicago, Illinois, was sentenced by Chief Judge Philip Simon to 46 months imprisonment and 3 years of supervised release after pleading guilty to count two of an indictment charging him with possession with the intent to distribute one hundred kilograms or more of marijuana in the case US v Flores et al. This case was the result of an investigation by the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Office of Homeland Security Investigations. This case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Jacqueline Jacobs.

Peter Tryand, 56, of Valparaiso, Indiana, was sentenced by Senior Judge Rudy Lozano to 51 months imprisonment and 2 years of supervised release after pleading guilty to count one of an indictment charging him with conspiracy to commit wire fraud by devising a scheme to defraud federally licensed firearms dealers of US currency. Tryand was ordered to pay $942,384.20 in restitution. This case was the result of an investigation by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives. This case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Jacqueline Jacobs.

James Williams, 43, of Kankakee, Illinois, pled guilty before Senior Judge James Moody to count one of an indictment charging him with armed bank robbery of Shapiro Development Center Employees’s Credit Union in Kankakee, Illinois. Williams also pled guilty to count one of a second indictment charging him with armed bank robbery of the Kentland Bank in Lake Village, Indiana. These charges were filed as the result of an investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation. This case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney David Nozick.

Sanuel Johnson, 34, of Gary, Indiana, pled guilty before Judge Joseph Van Bokkelen to count one of an indictment charging him with being a felon in possession of a firearm. Sentencing has been set for 7/7/11. These charges were filed as the result of an investigation by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives . This case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Dean Lanter.

David Lee, 47, of Lynwood, Illinois, was sentenced by Senior Judge James Moody to 115 months imprisonment and 3 years of supervised release after pleading guilty to counts one through five of an indictment charging him with bank robbery of TCF Bank in Dyer, Indiana; Chase Bank in Munster and Dyer, Indiana; and Harris Bank in Munster and Schererville, Indiana. Lee was ordered to pay $32,995.69 in restiitution. These charges were filed as the result of an investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and the Munster, Dyer, and Schererville Police Departments. This case was prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Thomas Ratcliffe.

Brian Logmann, 36, of LaPorte County, Indiana, was sentenced by Senior Judge James Moody to 37 months imprisonment and 3 years of supervised release after pleading guilty to count three of a superseding indictment charging him with distribution of heroin in the case US v Zitt et al. This case was investigated by the Drug Enforcement Administration, Porter County Drug Task Force, the Michigan City Police Department, the Indiana State Police, and the LaPorte Metro Operations Drug Task Force This case is being prosecuted by Assistant United States Attorney Joshua Kolar.

            The specific sentence in each case to be imposed upon conviction will be determined by the judge after a consideration of federal sentencing statutes and the Federal Sentencing Guidelines.
